Latest Bits And Pieces

Hello the USofA, Germany, France, and Ukraine and welcome to the blog...it's another day, I woke up, nearly half an hour into it and not yet one mention of a Child Abuse cover-up or Royal Commission...so far so good, but there's plenty of day left yet...(enough with the optimism already-Ed)...I can only apologise for the lack of humour but I just don't have it in me today, sorry...

That Charmer Palmer: has apparently apologised profusely to the Chinese government/people/both for his comments on the ABC Q&A program Monday last week, where he unloaded about 'mongrels' and a bunch of other stuff...again, I apologise sortta' 'cos I didn't see the whole thing and I haven't even tried to watch it on-line because 1) just trying to get stuff to play properly is a struggle due to the poor Interweb accessibility, and 2) when I can get stuff to play it chews my monthly 'allowance' in not very long...there's just no point trying to get through 10 minutes let alone an hour of anything...

And I know that I can spend more money to get more time, etc, but it doesn't change the reality that I regularly can't get the bandwidth/whatevs to get stuff to play, so what's the point of more time?...and I'm also aware that others do periodically have the same access problems I do...I basically scroll read headlines via Google, etc, check facts as best I can, etc, but when it comes to watching stuff, I pretty much don't bother...if I miss the TV replay it's just bad luck...(what is 'streaming video on-line'?-Ed)...indeed...

Two Unrelated Points: namely 1) that the truth lies somewhere between Clive going off like a frog in a sock, and the local faux outrage and irrelevant political correctness in response, and 2) China is more than capable of sticking up for itself...but the Palmer United Party's Jackie Lambie is not apologising for her comments re China invading Australia...and again sorry I've only seen snippets of these comments but if her comments are applied in an economic context, China has no need to invade Australia because it's far cheaper doing what it's doing now than physically invading...

Again, I cannot support foreign governments owning any share of Australian properties, don't care who it is, and if I was China I'd probably be doing exactly what they're doing to secure resources for China...our first  problem is our own politicians who are actively looking to get on board with this sell-off/out...Free Trade is great if you're already in a strong position but crushes diversity, eg, no cars manufactured in Australia, no petrol refining, farms sold for far above value and turned into coal mines, etc, etc...and on top of that, state governments being pushed by federal Liberal to flog off state assets...

But First: Even with the unannounced absence of senior 'announcer' Stan Thompson, the 'Dorothy Dixer' interviews keep pouring out of the ABC Mt Gambier...last week there were 2 interviews on the same day re Weatherill government plans to interfere with/potentially axe local Development Assessment Panels...(ahh, those supposedly Independent bodies made up of, in Mt Gambier's case, 3 Councillors, namely Messrs Mutton, Von Stanke, and White-Ed)...oh my god!...(exactly, those 3 clowns, plus 4 people chosen by Council-Ed)...how is that Independent? 3 rank stooges off Council and their mates they chose...(I know, I know-Ed)...

The first interview was with Grant District Council Mayor Richard Sage and the second with a rep from the Local Government Assoc, and the general concensus was 'why would you change something that ain't broke?'...it's a broad paraphrase but both gentlemen stated that the current structures worked fine, just fine...(just fine-Ed)...(just fine-Dude From The LGA)...and it saddens/frustrates me that there was not one question about the raft of highly corrupted, nepotistic land rezonings, development approvals, etc, from the Bunnings/Penola Rd disaster, the rancid corruption of the Main Corner, the Lady Nelson Bus Shelter, itself a result of the Rail Lands Retail Agenda lunacy, etc, etc, on and it goes...(you do don't you-Ed)...

(And what about the Old Hospital demolition?-Ed)...yep, that, the Library, all that stuff that I maintain originates with the RLRA, everything has been done to keep that Rail Lands site free for Retail/Commercial development, these decisions that have all but destroyed any chance of appropriate future planning/development around Mt Gambier, eg, City Council deliberately stalling Bunnings at Penola Rd whilst they (Council) pursued the RLRA, meaning that the Light Industrial Estate on Millicent Rd was re-zoned by Grant District Council and Bunnings went there...(and of course that site was/is owned by a then serving District Cr Brenton James-Ed)...mate, you couldn't make this shizzle up...

Deja Vu All Over Again: as Stuart Stansfield is currently (about 0730hrs this morning) talking about the Lions group School's Speaking Competition...this was what Stuart interviewed Rory McEwen about in late 2012, on the occasion that I rang almost in tears and was repeatedly abused, taunted, goaded, mocked, and laughed at by Stuart...just caught the tail-end of this today and a brief mention of Rory 'shaking his head' but I'm not sure whether he was referencing the day before, or whether Rory's sitting there right now with his mate...sorry...there was also reference to 'call in and speak for a prize, you've heard what the judges want' but I didn't hear that part of the interview so I don't know whether that was Rory or not either...whatevs

Subterfuge?:...(or sub to Japan?-Ed)...do you mean sub-contracting to Japan the SA Submarine contract that PM Tony 'Super WASP' Abbott swore was gunna' see 12 submarines built in Adelaide?...there has been a visit to Adelaide by Japanese sub specialists and the Weatherill Labor government apparently wasn't even told...(if that wasn't so funny it'd be a bloody outrage-Ed)...indeed...and reportedly the SASC original Collins Class subs are doing so well that 2 sometimes 3 of them are in the water, up to 3 of the 6, up from the usual 1...1 of 6...I have no idea whether they are totally shonky or we can't afford to run more than 1 at a time, whatevs, but why are we doing this again?...

I know it sounds relatively simplistic but, if we have to have submarines, why not buy the second-hand subs and develop an industry based on recycling/refitting/re-saling?...we can't build new ones and we can't afford to try again...get second-hand which means an instantly operational fleet with heaps of back-ups and all the technicians, etc, can pull one or two apart whilst developing future systems, etc, thus maintaining a viable intellectual property and/or workforce...

(And why not from the USofA? they owe us for all those dodgy bloody helicopters we bought that couldn't fly propers-Ed)...and the bloody Joint Strike Fighter for gourd sake...(orr not the JSF, don't get me started about the bloody 'Flying Pig'-Ed)...nah, stay on task, the submarines...ah yes, yes it doesn't look great when the state government doesn't get an invitation to it's own facility, but this doesn't mean that the subs are definitely being built elsewhere...(or at all for that fact-Ed)...oh gourd ,don't say that...I rarely get on this bandwagon, but Adelaide desperately needs those jobs, new or used...(Honest Jay's Second Hand Subs, yeah?-Ed)...maybe not...

There's apparently state funding for work on 'rural roads', being the Main Corner intersection and the Jubilee Hwy/Crouch St intersection...interesting that 2 intersections inside the Mt Gambier city limits are considered 'rural'...(is that because they want to put Bike Lanes through those roads-JC)...sorry, the JC...(ahh no, not the JC, I'm Justin Credbly-Cynical-JC)...of course you are...joking aside, the Main Corner intersection was traffic disaster enough before the Main Corner project further concentrated parking problems, thus exacerbating the limited flow issues...a lane that suddenly turns into carpark spaces just through the lights is always going to cause problems...

Furthermore, adding turn arrows to the Main Corner will extend the sequence time and cause traffic to back-up right along the Main St...why not do the 3-cycle thing, it works perfectly...cars one way, then the other, then pedestrians left, right or diagonal...this stops cars getting caught waiting for the pedestrians and/or driving through intersections while people are still crossing...it's safer, quicker, more efficient...

Bottom Of The Marina Scheme: I've attached the following item from The Border Watch of Thursday 21st August 2014 just because it's very interesting given the years of shenanigans re Robe Council and the Defamation action from Grant King/the RDA re questions about RDA's funding 'practices', but it looks like this time the booting may be on the other foot, albeit the same foot may be in that boot...(whaaa?-Ed)...I know, I know...I'll do more on this...

Tomorrow: More Shenanigans

Probably about the Rail Lands again too...(and why not?-Ed)...and I'll explain Tony 'Super WASP' Abbott.

I am Nick Fletcher and this is my blog...cheers and laters...
