Self Esteem: The Issue I'd Love To Have

As per previous blogs, I intend to cover numerous topics across a series of posts rather than drown people with too much info in one go, but I genuinely appreciate the feedback I've received re my Mental Health blog (31 Jan 2013) that it was a little light on, a little vague if not actually flippant.

As per this blog's title, I intend to engage in deeply personal and/or controversial issues with at least attempts at humour, usually at my expense; self-depracating to the point of self-defacating. (haha)
      (following feedback of request to explain- refers to an 'Australian-ism'; ie, it means to laugh at
        oneself so hard one soils oneself - NF  )

And so, an old joke: It is often a fine line between committed and should be.

There is nothing especially spectacular about my various life issues, traumas, 'psychosis' (for lack of a better word), or behaviours, etc, other than the intensity with which I experience them, and to paraphrase one 'social worker' (June 2006) that 'one person could have so many life changing issues happening at the same time and still function at all'.

To start at the start; my parents divorced when I was very small, basically at the vanguard of the 'divorce generation' (late 60s).

It is well documented that some children can and will blame themselves for a situation that they do not understand and I was one of those children; I grew up blaming myself for my parents divorce, and by the time I realised that (mid 20s) I was whom I still am.

Nothing particularly unusual, nor is there anyone particularly to blame, and I certainly don't; in the words of the philosopher; "Ain't nothin' but a thang."    (It is not anything but a thing)

The fundamental dominant influence of my life has been (still is) a total absence of self esteem; not poor or low or whatever...none; a profound depression that is not something I can remove myself from because it is my entire childhood and ultimately whom I am.

It was my reality that life, girlfriends, career, success, etc, was something that would happen for other people who were decent and worthy; unlike me.

It is not just an issue of self-loathing, or self doubt, or lack of confidence, etc, it is a fundamental belief that I was not a good person and would therefore not be having any of those things that decent people have.

In early primary school I was the only child with divorced parents, and it re-enforced that belief that I was to blame because I was not that 'decent person'; and that self-blame became permanent.

I grew up adjacent to life as I understood it to exist for others, and remain an intensely shy and introverted person, gentle to the very edge of cowardice; I have literally never raised my hand to anyone in my life.

People whom have met me may suggest that this 'shyness' claim is nonsense, but bouts of brutish vanity and arrogance must not be mistaken for any level of self-esteem.

I do not have a dial for levels of commitment, not even one that goes all the way to 11, just a switch; on or off; no median; no moderation; I've spent the vast majority of my life just wandering around un-motivated and un-caring, literally looking at the ground in front of me, unable to commit to anything or anyone, and it's cost me every relationship I've ever cared about.

Its not bi-polar, but a natural contrast that when I do go, I go very, very large.   (well, used to go)

Somewhere during my first ever relationship (at 19) I decided that I was actually a very attractive man, and proceeded to engage in a decade long, drug-fuelled, ego manic rampage. (you know that there is some future bloggings there)

Deeply concerned with my own behaviour, by about 25 I had self-realised my problems and their foundations, and resolved to not have relationships; I just hurt people I genuinely cared about.

Purely by luck, I became a father at 27, and 'it' is unquestionably that which allowed me to learn genuine commitment beyond self; I know it sounds a bit prattish but there you go.

Fatherhood is the only relationship that I have successfully committed to, and that has inevitably flowed into the St Martins Child Abuse Issue.

Similarly, focus and direction driven and fueled by anger, eg, my commitment to the Child Abuse issue, should not be confused with self-esteem.

This piece is a very broad summary of one persons (my) experience, in part to explain why I behave the way I do, but also to underpin my position that my commitment to my 'social agenda' and subsequent political activism is real and absolute; I have committed.

However, this blog is not in any way professional advice.

If anything that is covered in any of my blogs touches on personally sensitive issues for you contact a professional or other, eg, Lifeline; it is not weak to ask for help, and keep asking until you get it.

There are people in our community who can and will help, just obviously nowhere near enough of them, and that is something that I will continue to address.

Wind Turbine Propaganda: When Reality Hits The Fan

Sorry; P and F III will have to wait.

The relentless and highly deceitful  propaganda campaign being waged by Wind Turbine developers and/or electricity producers, retailers, the SA Labor government, etc, has reared its ugly head again.

There is a definable campaign to flood the media with misinformation and outright lies for 24hrs and then dive for cover so as to avoid accountability; this has happened not once, not twice, but over and over.

Yesterday morning 05 Feb 2013 on ABC Radio Early, Mt Gambier, there was an interview about electricity pricing with (name unknown-I'll find out) that went round and round the reality of what is happening with electricity production and distribution (particularly with Wind Turbines), but did explain the 'Energy Import/Export Structure' (my words) that has SA exporting Wind Turbine electricity or importing brown coal generated electricity from Victoria.

Mr (?  )  explained that SA is completely vulnerable to the pricing practices of only a few companies, but I believe he misrepesented the facts around 'cheap generation'; Wind Turbines are completely un-economic without massive tax-payer funded 'renewable subsidies', and we are paying for their network infrastructure via our massive electricity bills.

This generation issue was discussed on ABC Late Afternoons 16/01/2013 with 'Mr Warren of the Energy Supply Assoc' (?-can't read my own notes) where it was established that when the wind stops blowing in SA, we will import carbon emission intense brown coal electricity at literally top dollar because everyone in Victoria will want that electricity too, particularly given that there is no Turbine energy.

That morning Rainer Korte of Electranet was on ABC Radio Early Morning, Mt Gambier, talking about "cheap wind energy" and how it will "apply downward pressure on prices"; this is simply not true.

Relying on Wind Turbines for any % of base load is fundamentally not possible and does not bear appropriate scrutiny; any weather reliant energy generation requires 100% back-up ability, eg coal and/or gas, nuclear, etc; when the wind stops so does production, and then where does the energy come from?.....it's not rocket surgery, people.

Climate based generation, eg, solar thermal, or other, eg, geothermal, are far more reliable and can be included in a permanent base load structure; their output can be accurately predicted.

High summer is peak demand but when the wind is least likely to blow; during a week long windless 40+ degree Adelaide heatwave where is Adelaide going to get its electricity.

The following is a fairly simplistic but I believe genuine way to explain the economics.

We are paying these 'subsidies', via our taxes, directly to these companies just to have turbines erected.

South Australia has the third most expensive electricity on the planet; we pay for the 'poles and wires' associated with Wind Turbines, whilst that issue is hidden behind 'gold plating' arguments.

This infrastructure is then used to export Wind Turbine electricity to Eastern states for their 'Renewable Energy Targets', recently re-set at an un-achievable 20%.

As soon as the wind stops, SA is importing electricity.

I believe that the timing of these waves of propaganda show clear collusion.

On literally the same day;
          1) the Environmenal Protection Agency quietly releases a partial, sub-standard report
              about Infrasound (only down to 10 hertz);
          2) the above interview runs on ABC Radio;
          3) Electranet have a long letter in The Border Watch (05 Feb 2013 page 4) completely
              misrepresenting and/or ignoring the facts about their new conductor/connector on
              the SA/VIC border;
          4) Russell Marsh of the Clean Energy Council (a 'renewable industry' lobby group) is
              interviewed on ABC Radio completely misrepresenting the EPA partial report.

The EPA is now acknowledging that a) Infrasound is real, b) that it can/does have effects on 'some people'; only months ago it was being dismissed outright as an invention of turbine opponents.

Now they have suddenly done a few days of some very minor, extremely limited testing, and everything is just fine; balderdash and poppycock.

SA Labor government legislation ignores the issue of Infrasound.

Just listening to Mr Marsh on the Country Hour ABC Radio (12.30 SA - 06 Feb 2013) yet again completely misrepresenting the EPA Report, stating outright that the reports says 'no problem'.

Followed by Peter Dolan of the EPA completely misrepresenting the facts about Infrasound upto and beyond lying, whilst openly admitting things the EPA has previously denied even exist; he just acknowledged that it does exist and that it does effect people.

He actually said that there 'is nothing more independent than a state government inquiry, and that the EPA is completely independent'; rubbish.

In the Stan Thompson interview, 05 Feb 2013 (available on line at ABC Radio Morning Rewind)
Mr Marsh of the CEC said his piece, but the EPA declined to go on air, instead sending a message that Stan read out.

It clearly stated that the EPA did not agree with the CEC's assessment of the Infrasound report; don't just believe me, check for yourself on the ABC Radio website for these above programs.

When Annette Marner's ABC Radio program ran the story 05 Feb 2013 neither the EPA or the CEC were 'available', both aware of the scrutiny that Ms Marner would apply to their lies.

In 3 blogs time; Extreme Turbine Propaganda on ABC Radio August 2012 (deserves a blog all its' own-you'll see what I mean).

P and F II: the Crown Solicitor and Mount Gambier City Council

I do not apologise for the relentless venting that is inextricably intertwined with discussing the St Martins Child Abuse Issue, etc; I've got 10+ years of being threatened, bullied and blamed by the people who should have been pursuing the teacher, not protecting him.

Furthermore, the St Martins Issue is indicative of the broader institutionalised corruption that cripples South Australia, and irrefutably flows straight into Federal Parliament and onto the Prime Ministers desk.

In June-August 2002 parents organised Flinders Child Protection Service (FCPS) to travel to Mt Gambier to interview our children re the abuses committed against them by their teacher in the classroom at St Martins Lutheran School.    (see previous blogs)

Attorney General Michael Atkinson forced FCPS to hand their interim report (Aug 2002) to the Lutherans, and the Lutherans and the Crown Solicitors Office (CSO) then edited the report, removing anything that compromised the teacher or the Lutherans.

SAPol stated this to parents (2002) as the primary reason for failure to investigate; 'FCPS has taken out everything we could have used to convict the teacher'', and FCPS stated as above.

Parent complaints to the Teachers Registration Board (Feb 2003) led to a TRB/CSO inquiry into the teachers behaviour March 2003-Nov 2004.

Crown Solicitors Office (CSO-Under AG M. Atkinson) were the ones who came to Mt Gambier and repeatedly lied to parents about their role in the process, eg, telling me I would not need a lawyer because they (the CSO) were my (our) lawyer in the hearings.

My written complaints to the CSO were met with a barrage of denials and threats;
          "Thirdly, many of your assertions are plainly outrageous and/or defamatory...I warn
            you not to repeat these allegations."                (Greg Parker-Acting CS-11 Jan 2005)

Followed by a thinly veiled but very direct threat to charge and jail me;
          "...I observe that making baseless critical allegations of this nature may constitute
            defamation with consequent civil liability, and depending on the circumstances may
            also constitute the crime of criminal defamation pursuant to section 257 of the
            Criminal Law Consolidation Act."
          " I must request that you cease making these baseless and potentially highly defamatory
           allegations...The allegations achieve nothing except to expose you to potential civil
           and criminal liability."                          (Simon Stretton-CS-22 Nov 1996)

"Criminal liability" means jail; at the same time activists were being attacked through the Courts (see pevious blog), the Crown Solicitor is prepared to threaten a parent with jail for speaking out about the rank corruption in the CSO, as evidenced by their conduct with the FCPS report, and with the TRB/CSO hearing.

Having repeatedly threatened to jail me, the CSO refused my written request for a "formal recorded meeting" to resolve the issue, stating;
          "Your accusations against this office are baseless for reasons previously discussed..There is no
            point discussing the matter further,"          (Simon Stretton-CS-14 Dec 2006)

Sorry, I've had enough already today; doing this no longer makes me angry the way it used to, but the sadness and nagging sense of guilt and failure never abate.

How is that I have failed to resolve this? Why will nobody else do anything about it?

Pariahtisation and Fascocracy: Shooting the Messenger in a Fascist Democracy

Across Australia, our elected and public officials, when faced with any sort of scrutiny or criticism, particularly about their institutionalised corruption, will immediately attack the person asking the question.

Democratic election processes and conventions are fundamentally irrelevent; we get to choose whom will lord it over us with a complete disregard for what we want or how it might affect us.

Pariahtisation: In response to criticism, scrutiny, etc, the established priority, the protocol, is to attack and denigrate the accuser without addressing the complaint, accusation, etc.

Fascocracy: A  psuedo-democratic system, where the electorate are effectively powerless, allowed to vote for candidates whom ignore them thereon in.
(I made up these words-they are not in a dictionary-NF)

In South Australia Fascocracy includes legislating to remove peoples democratic rights, particularly the right to oppose.

As per previous blog, when Mike Rann/Labor legislated to remove any possibility of opposition to Wind Turbines (Oct 2011) by denying citizens access to the Courts, that is Fascism.

Add to that Laws of Association; attempts to abolish the Upper House; using the Courts to attack opponents; specifically applied Suppression Orders to protect ministers; etc; these are cornerstones of Fascism.

Fascocracy denies citizens any genuine opportunity to participate other than at the polling booth; elections are the thin veneer between the democracy we think we have, and the reality.

For example; parachuting an unqualified Labor party hack into the Head of the Environmental Protection Agency to control the EPA is Fascocracy.

When in 2005 Child Protection activists exposed paedophiles in parliament, police, and the judiciary, the activists were the ones arrested and charged, not the paedophiles.

Even when a lower Court (Magistrates/District?) threw the charges out, the Rann Labor government forced it back into the Supreme Court where taxpayers funded Mike Rann's personal vendetta against these people.

Because of the St Martins Lutheran School Child Abuse Cover-up, and I was having Radiotherapy at the time (March 2005), I was daily in Parliament House, in the Speakers office, when all this occurred, and therefore became a defence witness in the Court case.

When I gave evidence the jury were smiling at me, shaking their heads, shrugging their shoulders, and laughing at the prosecution; it was high farce designed to send a message; if you speak out you will feel the wrath of Mike Rann and his gang of paedophile protecting socio-pathic incompetents we call the SA Labor party.

Under Laws of Association, if these activists were convicted, then anyone they had ever spoken to, liased with, etc, could be legally banned from contacting each other; the Court case wasn't just about revenge, it was an attempt to crush anti-paedophile activism in South Australia.

One of the paedophiles named was a former, recent Liberal Premier, demonstrating that the activists were genuine in their intent, it was not a party aligned campaign.

Another paedophile identified was still a serving politician, known by the psuedonym 'Terry'.

It was MP Rory McEwen who told me (and another parent) in a meeting in his office, that 'Terry' was MP Patrick Conlon, before going on to say "the fact that I'm prepared to identify Mr Conlon proves it is not true"; bizarre I know, but that's what happened.

Our attempts to hold Rory to account for his role in the St Martins Cover-up issue have been met with abuse and Rory trying (unsuccessfully) to have us arrested (March 2006).

When the above activists contacted Rory re St Martins, he abused them, threatened them, and openly denigrated us parents as "unstable".

The Lutherans have openly attacked us parents as the only genuine problem at St Martins.

Please see other blogs for other issues re Rory McEwen, particularly when it comes to St Martins.

I Can't Believe It's Not Farcical: The Election Campaign We're Not Already Having.

Hello everyone, welcome to the Party Political Pantomime Show...you're just in time as our heroes are coming down the stairs, still in their pyjamas;

"Morning L1."
"Morning L2."
"Nice pyjamas L1...Italian silk?"
"Yes L2...thank god I didn't have to pay for them."
"Tax-payer funded credit card, L1?"
"Tax-payer funded credit card, L2."   (both laugh heartilly)
"Say L1, I can't find my policies anywhere...have you seen my policies?"
"Ah...no, L2.. I haven't seen your policies."
"I know I had some policies here somewhere L1, but I just can't seem to find them.....Hang on, what's that you're hiding behind your back L1?"
"Ah...nothing L2...certainly not a thick dossier of your policies and party agenda."
"Say L1, aren't those my pyjamas?...and are those my policies?...Now L1, you know I don't mind you borrowing my things, but if you're not careful people will think you're me...hey wait I'm L1...you're L2."
"Oh...um..er...um, oh, look L2, here comes a convenient distraction...my friend Election, the giant red herring."

Ah, god, I can't do this any longer; there is nothing funny about the position that Australians find themselves (ourselves) in.

There will be no actual governing for 8 months; nothing but electioneering.

Calling the election 8 months out is a disaster for Australia, but hugely personally beneficial for Julia Gillard, whom has demonstrated she will trample on any colleague, party branch, and/or democratic convention to get what she wants for herself when she wants it; she is Mike Rann on a Federal scale.

Labor can now stonewall all the way to the election, refusing to answer questions about the past (all the things that have gone and/or are still going wrong), by referring to the unfunded promises they've been making about Disability, Dental Care programs, (both to replace things they've just cut), etc.

It means that no matter how many of her colleagues abandon the clearly sinking ship, or get jailed or whatever, there will be no by-elections (bound to be embarassing losses, probaly compromising the government) between now and September 2013

The Labor party has completely trumped the Liberal party by simply stealing all their policies, and therefore voting base, and by definition betray the 'Labor values' that are apparently located somewhere on the moral highground that Labor constantly declare is theirs.

Australia doesn't stand a chance; you/we are being betrayed by both parties, whom, for example, both have representatives (eg, Mark Vale, Bob Hawke) overseas furiously trying to sell off huge chunks of Australia to foreign governments.

The Greens are such a complicit irrellevence they don't even deserve a mention...oops...damn.

And most concerning: the Independents like Tony Windsor and Nick Xenophon are fully supportive of the calling of the Election; both have said it is a good thing.

Yet again, it comes down to a question of what is ignorance and incompetence, and what is complicit corruption.

When both major parties, the Greens, and the Independents are all subscribing to the same farcical pantomime (8 months of election campaign), they demonstrate a degree of collusion that fundamentally betrays Australia.

And the crowning glory; that Julia Gillard would kick it all off with the biggest lie of all, that this is not an 8 month election campaign; and, again, everyone's on board, including the Canberra press gallery.

Betrayal and disgrace are 2 words that will frequent this blog.

Starring;

L1: the Liberal Party (or is it Labor)
L2: the Labor Party (I think)
Election, the Giant Red Herring: appearing as itself

The Piccanninie Ponds Sale: Murky Deals in Pristine Waters

What do the New York Times, the Chinese government, the Hunter Valley, a cup of coffee, and the Piccanninie Ponds have in common?

The NY Times alleges that the Chinese government have been hacking their computers in retaliation for articles about 'nepotism and corruption' in China, and former NSW government minister Eddie Obied is charged with 'nepotism and corruption' re coal mining in the Hunter Valley, NSW, insider trading done over coffee.

Nepotism: patronage bestowed in consideration of family relationship and not of merit. (Maq Dict)
Corruption: 5. corrupt or dishonest proceedings.                      (Maquarie Dictionary)

For example, it is not nepotism for a parent to engage their child as an apprentice and access appropriate funding, training, etc, or to employ a family member in a family business, etc, etc.

It is nepotism, for example, when government contracts are awarded to relatives of government ministers as with WorkCover SA and Sandra De Poi, partner of state Labor MP Leon Bignell.

Find the Sunday Mail article (March 28 2010) Bignell partner's $10m bonanza, which gives a small window of insight into the selfishness, greed, and gross corruption of a governmental system and massive, self-perpetuating public service that largely exists to justify it's own existence, by explaining Ms De Poi's connections and conflicts of interests in detail.

Ms De Poi was one of the people who impersonated Family First officials by standing outside a polling booth, in Leon Bignell's electorate, wearing a t-shirt and handing out 'How-to-vote' cards, both of which were deliberately designed to mimic Family First's electoral material.

These fake FF cards directed FF voters to give their FF preferences to Leon Bignell, as opposed to the FF's actual choice, Liberal candidate Matthew Donovan.

This was all done, the fake cards and t-shirts, standing there handing them out, all done to deliberately deceive the electorate and alter the outcome of the election, in Leon Bignell's electorate, by Leon Bignell's partner, to get Leon Bignell into parliament and hopefully therefore him and Labor into government.

Everything else aside, there is an immediate, specific, definable financial gain to being elected, and even more to gain as a member of the government not opposition, and that is fraud; unless it happens in a South Australian election, Electoral Commissioner Kay Mousley stating 'the tactic...does not technically breach the law'.

Fraud: deceit, trickery, sharp practice or breach of confidence, by which it is sought to gain some unfair or dishonest advantage.       (MD)

Nepotism; corruption; fraud; which brings us nicely back to Piccanninie Ponds.

I have been privy to numerous conversations, rumours, and outright allegations about the processes and participants involved, regarding the sale of land at Piccaninnie Ponds.

These allegations are so serious that they must be specifically addressed and I can only see one way to do that; I will not divulge whom has told me what, not even if it's all lies; I take full responsibility for the following;

My name is Nick Fletcher, and it is my understanding and my genuine belief that MP Rory McEwen used his position/influence as a front bench Rann Labor minister to get a state government department to withdraw from the original sale process at Piccanninie Ponds, and that the land was subsequently sold to Rory McEwen and/or his family.

I further believe that the same department then shortly after (within a year?) went back and purchased the same land from Rory McEwen and/or his family at '10 times' the price that Rory and/or his family paid, producing an immediate (tax-payer funded) profit 'running into the millions'.  ('10 times' and 'millions' are me paraphrasing the various versions of this issue that I have heard, not specific amounts)

Possibly this was not so much influence exerted by Rory as reward received from Labor, part of the broader inducement (eg position on the front bench, etc) for Rory to betray the electorate by doing exactly what he said he would not, that is, cross the floor and hand Mike Rann power (2002); and hasn't that worked out a treat for South East South Australia; Rory, our man in government; good work.

Regardless, with the Ponds in the news, these allegations/rumours have obviously re-surfaced.

I put it to you directly Mr McEwen and I call on you to respond; I know you're out there somewhere living it up on your fat state pension but not daring to show your face around town.

If I am wrong I'm sure Rory will let me know and I will competely withdraw the allegations and apologise publicly and on this blog; otherwise the allegation stands.

Can't help wondering if Rory, after repeated failed attempts to get me banned from local media, eg, threatening the ABC for airing my comments that 'I don't like him', will have the same success getting me banned off my own blog.

Tomorrow:    I Can't Believe It's Not Farcical: The Election Campaign We're Not Already Having.

PS: Same page as above article (SM 28/03/10) - Paper faces bias probe - re Don Pegler, Sandra Morello and the Border Watch newspaper, and 2010 election candidate Nick Fletcher (that's me) complaining, "...to the Australian Press Council and the SA Electoral Commission...".
          " Mr Fletcher filed his complaints on March 16, two days after the Sunday Mail revealed
           that Sandra Morello, a senior journalist for The Border Watch, was stood aside from the
           political round after it emerged her husband was writing press releases for Mr Pegler."

The article fails to mention (as per previous blog) that Sandra Morello was printing those "press releases" verbatum in the Border Watch as actual news items under her byline; disgraceful.

 By any defintion, let alone the dictionary ones above, this is nepotism, corruption, and fraud.

My Experience of Mental Health Services in Mt Gambier

Nobody has ever accused me of being sane (haha); the closest anyone's ever gone is 'knowing what I do of your childhood, it's amazing you're so normal', but that's for another blog or ten.

I currently choose to attend monthly (funded) appointments with a local Mental Health Professional (MHP), and, cynical though I am of such processes, it has been most helpful and even cathartic.

I moved to Mt Gambier in 1998, but was 'Unfairly Dismissed' from a full-time job in 2000; sued, self-represented and won; but job providers, the Union, Dept of Labour and Industry, told me I was effectively un-employable, so I moved to doing full-time volunteer work (Lifeline, child's school, etc) and was generally coping.

Then, in June 2002 my child's grade 2 teacher at St Martins Lutheran School was suddenly removed amid multiple complaints and abuse disclosures from several children; he never returned.

The Lutherans, police, Rory McEwen, etc, effectively chose to cover-up the abuse with devastating impacts for the families involved, and I asked Centrelink for help in early 2003; but the Centrelink psychologist mis-diagnosed me as being 'delusional' and needing 'psychiatric' help.

Despite this 'diagnosis', and my ongoing requests for help, the Centrelink report haunted me as I was simply moved to Personal Support Program, and eventually wound up with a Disability Service Provider, but still receiving Newstart payment and no counselling; this went on for years through a system where providers (including Centrelink) didn't listen to me because they had been specifically directed to 'not encourage me in my beliefs'.

In late 2011 I was advised to apply for the Disability Support Pension before stringent changes due January 2012, was refused, but when Centrelink finally followed their own guidelines and spoke to my MHP, I was immediately granted the DSP in May 2012.

After years of public abuse, etc, I knew I had chronic depression issues and crippling agorophobia, but reading it on the page from a professional allowed me to step away from and view objectively the sense of failure and weakness that will always haunt me (over my failure to resolve the St Martins Child Abuse issue).

The St Martins Abuse Issue took (continues to take) a massive toll on me mentally and physically, and in July 2004 I was diagnosed with a huge 16cm x 12cm lymphoma tumour right in the centre of my chest leading to 8 months of chemo and one of radiotherapy.

Don't make the mistakes I did; don't swallow that frustration or that anger or sadness; appropriate mental health support can also help address general health issues (sleep, diet, etc), and pointed but not defamatory letters to those involved can help get that stuff outside of your head.

I was deeply embarassed, etc, but it is not weak to "suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous misfortune" (Mr Shakespeare-ish), and/or "Shit Happens"; it is not weak to seek and accept help.

Mt Gambier's population base requires 6 full-time resident psychiatrists (a minimum of 3 would be needed for any full-time service ) but we have none; mental health services generally are grossly under-funded, part-time, and lacking cohesion, which is no reflection on those involved at a service level, eg, the Fly In Fly Out part-time psychiatrists.

The Rann state government promised at the 2006 and 2010 elections a '12 bed, stand alone mental health facility at the Mt Gambier Hospital'; never going to happen, just another lie from professional liars.

Instead what they've done is literally walk into general wards, point at random beds, and say 'that's a mental health bed now'; people with chronic conditions are either in  general wards with 'normal' patients, or are being sedated, restrained, and shipped to Adelaide via air ambulance.

These patients are taken to Adelaide for a few days and then literally dumped on the bus back to Mt Gambier.

I know people who have not taken their friends or relatives to the hospital specifically to avoid the above.

The fall-out from the axing of Drug/Alcohol Counselling (SEDAC) 2012, the privatisation of mental health services (Jan 2013), etc, remains to be seen, but Mt Gambier continues to receive hugely sub-standard services across the health sector; and with $1billion health savings to be found in this budget, it is only going to get uglier.

But, do not be put off; politely insist on help and be prepared to accept it.

Tomorrow: The Piccanninie Ponds Sale: Murky Deals in Pristine Waters.
